This year I have set myself the challenge of creating a sketch each week at my local park. There are several reasons that I wanted to do this. Firstly, I don’t draw! I always go directly to painting and feel I need to start drawing again. By sketching, I am not focusing on lots of detail and hope that this will help me to loosen up my paintings, as I have a habit of overworking pieces, striving to make them better, when in fact they are often best hours before I actually stop working on them! I also want to show the park through the year. I feel so grateful that I live just minutes from this incredible park. Through lockdown it was a saviour in terms of maintaining good mental health. It’s always been a place that I go to when I need to clear my head. I truly feel that being around nature is a must and highly recommend that everyone spends more time in their local parks.
I will try to update this page weekly, but am likely to end up doing so every few weeks. From top to bottom is as the year progresses, so the first images were drawn in January. After I have completed the year, I hope to exhibit some of the sketches alongside some paintings of my favourites and I am considering trying to put them together in a book, so I need to look into self-publishing to see how viable this is.
